The Hertz Corporation has kick started a global sustainability drive that combines several strategic initiatives to integrate sustainability best practices throughout the company.
Hertz said that its goal is to minimise its environmental footprint and operating costs through efficiency improvements, resource management and renewable energy production.
Dubbed "Living Journey", the project commits the vehicle rental company to providing customers with vehicle rental options that are fuel efficient and use clean, low-emissions technology such as Electric Vehicles (EVs) and hybrids. Additionally Hertz vowed to increase its philanthropic and volunteer efforts.
"The scheme will help Hertz to manage the environmental performance and social impacts of the company alongside fiscal responsibilities", said Mark P. Frissora, chairman and CEO of Hertz.
He pointed to progress made in 2011 on Hertz’s in solar generation and Electric Vehicle initiatives in addition to ongoing efforts to operate in an environmentally responsible manner at corporate offices and rental facilities.
“We are excited to introduce Living Journey which encompasses all of our efforts as an organisation through partnerships, employee education and investments to reduce our impact on the environment, provide customer value, and manage our business sustainably," added Frissora.
According to Frissora, Hertz has recycled over 50,000 IT units since 2005 which diverted 2 million tons of e-waste from landfills. It has also recycled approximately 680,000 gallons of used oil in 2011, and reduced paper use by 2.8 million pounds since 2006.
The sustainability initiatives will be rolled out globally by divisions of The Hertz Corporation including Hertz Rent A Car, Hertz On Demand, Hertz Equipment Rental, Hertz Entertainment Services, and Donlen.
