Fashion retailer Primark has hired UK competitor Marks & Spencer’s head of sourcing Garry Gordon as group sourcing director.
According to Retail Week, the role will see him help the company ’keep prices low’ while also improving its corporate social responsibility performance.
Phil George, Pragma Consulting director of strategy told Retail Week that “This is an important appointment for Primark, as it seeks to balance its twin aims of ethical sourcing of product and to remain competitive in the bargain-focused market.”
Gordon previously worked at Courtaulds and spent the last six years at high-street retailer Marks & Spencer where he reported into director of sourcing and general merchandise technology Krishan Hundal.
It is not known when he will take up his new position and both Primark and Marks & Spencer refused to comment.
