The UK’s largest retailer Tesco has announced plans to expand on-line supplier collaboration in an effort to reduce supply chain carbon emissions
Launched in co-operation with business community group 2degrees, Tesco’s Knowledge Hub will see suppliers sharing best practice and holding problem solving discussions, which the retailers hopes will see a 30% cut in carbon emissions from its supply chain by 2020.
Before expansion the programme was used by 750 members - a figure Tesco hopes to have increased this to 1000 by the end of 2012.
Speaking about the programme, Helen Fleming, climate change director at Tesco told the Retail Gazette that “With hundreds of suppliers in many countries, many with expertise in different aspects of sustainability, the best way to make progress is to share knowledge through our supply chains, across the industry, and across national boundaries.”
