Ford has been praised by a women’s entrepreneur advocacy organisation for its efforts to increase the number of women-owned suppliers within its supply chain.
At its 13th annual awards, the Women’s Business Enterprise Council listed the automotive giant among 29 other corporations for its work levelling “the playing field for women’s business enterprises to compete for corporate business."
Pamela Prince-Easton, president and CEO of the council said in a statement that “Ford is exemplary in enabling women’s businesses to compete by using a disciplined approach — from the CEO level on down — in measuring its progress in levelling the playing field for women’s businesses,"
Ford’s spend with women-owned suppliers increased 22% last year up from $866m in 2010 to $1.06bn last year. Overall Ford uses 150 women-owned suppliers out of a total of 10,000 suppliers globally.
Tony Brown, group vice president of Ford global purchasing, told The Detroit News that “Building a financially healthy, diverse supply base is a central part of the Ford purchasing strategy."
“We are proud to receive this recognition, and we hope it brings renewed attention to this important segment of our supply base," he added.
